Westminster Free Clinic, and its Youth Mentoring Program Westminster Free Clinic, founded in 1994, is a grass roots health care provider that is driven and empowered by volunteers and supported by the Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley Area. It offers basic non-invasive health care, at or near locations where large nmbers of uninsured people live or are marginally housed. Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other medical professionals volunteer their time at the clinic and teens also assist with the program. Teens interested in a career in health care, work closely with doctors, nurses, chiropractors, physical therapists, dentists, pharmacists, health educators, counselors, and case managers. The enthusiasm and energy of the teens is contagious and patients and adult volunteers alike look forward to seeing them. Everyone learns from each other, and the doctors say they like volunteering at the clinic because of the student training component.

2006 Zonta Tea is a Success The Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley hosted its annual Victorian Tea and Silent Auction November 5th, at Rancho de las Palmas in Moorpark, California.

Tea co-chairs Tricia Scribner, and Mary Lou Miller stated that nearly 120 guests attended and several wore some type of vintage clothing, jewelry, or victorian hat. Net proceeds from the Tea totaled about $13,000 and will go to support the club’s service programs and projects including, a Transitional home for battered families, scholarships, Young Women in Public Affairs, Make a Wish , Westminister Health Clinic, Literacy, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentorship Project

Once seated, guests delighted in finger sandwiches, teacakes, delicate flaky mini buscuits with clotted cream, preserves and lemon curd. Our guest speaker Dr. Barton Goldsmith, addressed the topic of overcoming life’s challenges sprinkled with amusing anecdotes. This year a live auction was also added with unique items like one of a kind jewelry, and a dessert of the month that Club members create and deliver to your home monthly. View the Photos

Your support will provide many of our local youths the opportunity to be involved in competitive soccer while enhancing their emotional and physical strengths. The DUEL LITERACY PROGRAM II, is designed to support At risK, English Language Development students currently enrolled in the fourth and fifth grades, and their families, by purchasing the next generation of the LeapFrog Interactive Technology to promote and sustain literacy in our second language students. This program helps families improve their lives and communities by supporting parents who do not speak English or who have limited English proficiency to read with their children. The program is being expanded from its origin in 2001 to include students in the upper elementary grades. Our club's generous $1,200 donation made this program possible at Justin Elementary School in Simi Valley, California.
